Another Year Abroad in The Books
Just a few days after getting married (for the second time), David and I packed up everything we owned, headed to Thailand for a month and then arrived in Brisbane, Australia. A year later, David is able to speak confidently in English, I have transitioned from a school teacher to an adult ESL professional and we've completed an exciting year of marriage away from our family and friends. I highly recommend spending a year abroad ... especially in this beautiful, exciting and carefree country.
While both David and I visited Sydney this year, we didn't do it together! He visited with his mom, and I visited with my parents. My favorite part of the trip was the boat ride back from Manly Beach where we got amazing views of the Opera House. Such a beautiful building.
Having our families visit gave us the perfect excuse to take a few days off from work and see more of this amazing country.
Our first week in Brisbane, David surprised me with a year pass to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. For an animal lover, it was the perfect gift and we spent many lazy Sundays chilling with the kangaroos and other Aussie animals. However, on our hiking trips we were able to see a lot of the animals in the wild as well, especially kangaroos, wallabies, cockatoos, rainbow lorikeets and brush turkeys.
As an avid bird lover, I've spent the past year being greeted every morning by these beauties. Rainbow lorikeets, I love you. (Also, David won't let me get a pet yet, so these guys are as close as I get.)
Thanks to our lovely campervan, we were able to see some spectacular sunsets (like this one in Bribie Island) and sunrises. We have decided that camping is much better in the fall and winter (no waking up at 4:30 am covered in sweat) but that if we get a surfboard/SUP board, it will totally be worth it.
For all of you who have been following our adventures, THANK YOU for reading the blog and I hope you've enjoyed it.
I'm off to America on Tuesday, but after that I'm happy to announce that I have a bridging visa to come back to Aussieland for now! We are waiting to see if David's visa is approved, and depending on if it is, either we will be here another year, or will take some time off for traveling.
As always... happy travels!!!!
