So you've decided to start vlogging, now what?
Vlogging is an excellent way to document your travels, special occasions and even every day life. As someone who has been living abroad since 2010, I vlog to share my experiences with my family and friends back home (or back homes, I should say, as I have now lived in 6 countries!)
So... what do you need to get started?
Level: Zero Beginner
A cell phone! Yep, that's right. My first vlog was created on a cell phone (mine is a Xiaomi Mi4). I phones are great, but there are tons of other cell phones out there that have great video quality. It's also a chance to see how much you like vlogging (if at all...). After creating my first video, I absolutely loved it, so I decided to upgrade. You can check out the quality of my first video HERE.
Sony a5000. This compact, mirrorless camera is the perfect traveling companion. It shoots stunning photos as well as HD video. Tip: Make sure that you have a memory card specifically made for shooting video. This will help cut the processing time. The current price is around $448 USD .
Level: Beginner with extra cash
Sony a6000. This camera is more expensive than the a5000, but quite a step up in terms of megapixels and overall quality. I haven't invested in this camera yet, just because I wanted to see how much I used my a5000, but in the future I would love to get this bad boy.
Level: Beginner on the Go
A GoPro Hero3+ or higher! GoPro has always been synonymous with extreme sports, underwater video and photography and durability. Before getting a second hand GoPro Hero3+, we purchased a Xiaomi Yi Action Camera. For around $70 USD it was not too bad, but the "waterproof case" wasn't waterproof at all ... and it died a quick death in Thailand. Of course, the newer the GoPro the better the quality (and the higher the price tag), so if you are just starting out, the Hero3+ is a great choice. Check out the quality of the GoPro HERE.
