Byron BaY Skincare
One of my favorite parts of living abroad is getting to test out unique, local beauty and wellness products specific to the region surrounding my new home. Instead of bringing over a suitcase full of products, why not take advantage of local natural remedies and ingredients that are specifically formulated to your new climate? It's also a great way to support local businesses.
One such company not too far from Brisbane is Byron Bay Skincare, who generously sent me some products to review for this blog. Byron Bay Skincare is 100% natural and plant derived. It's cruelty free, and made in Byron Bay, Australia. For each product purchased, they even plant a tree! There are so many products out there, the majority of which are semi-toxic and harmful to our bodies, so I urge you to educate yourself and learn how to read product labels. While natural and organic products are more pricey, you are paying for quality and ingredients that actually treat and prevent skin issues, instead of temporarily reducing them.
When it comes to skincare, I'm about as sensitive as they get because I developed Perioral Dermatitis a few years ago. This means that I can't use products with mineral oil, silicones, propylene glycol, fragrance, petrolatum, parabens, sulfates, dyes or GMO ingredients. Byron Bay Skincare is free from all these harmful chemicals, which is fantastic!
Products i've been testing out
* Cream Cleanser with Coconut and Macadamia
* Vitamin C+ Serum with Kakadu Plum and Pink Grapefruit
* Replenishing Cream with Avocado Oil and Cocoa Butter
* Body Soufflé with Cinnamon and Clove
This is my favorite product. It's absolutely incredible. First of all, it smells like a field full of fresh roses. I've never used a cream cleanser before, and I must say that I really like it. First, you need to dampen your skin and then gently massage the cream into your face and neck before rinsing it off with warm water. The consistency is like a body cream, it's quite thick. It left my skin incredibly soft and I've been using it day and night. I will be purchasing this product again for sure!
Vitamin C+ Serum
The serum has a refreshing, citrus scent to it. Simply pump out 1 or 2 drops and press into the skin. The bottle recommends using it both day and night, but I've found that it's a bit sticky, so I prefer to use it at night before going to sleep. Due to the citric acid, this product is too harsh on the perioral dermatitis under and around my nose, but it's great for under the eyes as well as the forehead. If you do choose to wear this during the day, it is recommended to wear it under your moisturizer.
I like that this product is unscented. Too many scents can be a bit overwhelming and can also irritate facial skin. The consistency of this cream isn't too thick, which I like and when used in conjunction with the cream cleanser, the skin is left silky smooth, without feeling greasy. This product is perfect for this climate because the strong, unfiltered sun really dries out and damages people's skin. I use this all over my face and neck, except for the area where my dermatitis is. The only thing that really works for that area is Apivita's Calendula Cream.
Another product that I absolutely loved was this spicy, exotic body souffle. It's a unique scent that smells and feels luxurious. The cream is quite lightweight and is easily absorbed by the skin. The ingredients are a variety of oils and plant extracts which really soften and protect the skin. I will definitely get another once I use this one up, as well as try out the Body Creme, which is thicker and scented with gardenia and rose.
A big thank you to Byron Bay Skincare for letting me test out their products. I'm not only impressed with the quality ingredients, but also with the packaging and formulation of the products. If you'd like to check them out (especially if you live in Australia or New Zealand) please visit their website Byron Bay Skincare.
If you're living, or even just traveling abroad, I encourage you to look for local brands of natural products. Happy travels!
